Electrical Safety
Working with electricity in the garden can be hazardous; follow these tips to make sure that you stay safe:
- Bear in mind that trailing electrical cables are awkward and potentially dangerous as they may be cut by moving blades.
- Employ a qualified electrician to install outside sockets in your garden to reduce the number of extension cords and length of trailing appliance leads.
- If your circuit is not protected by a RCD (residual current device) make sure that you either fit the appliance with an RCD plug or use an adaptor RCD between the plug and socket.
- Never touch or inspect a damaged electrical cable before disconnecting it completely from the mains.
- Always disconnect the power supply before inspecting, adjusting or cleaning a tool.
- Never use an electric tool during or after rain as this may cause electrical faults.
