ISA Types

There are three main types of ISA. These are distinct from the three ways of saving money in an ISA as outlined in ISA Components.

Mini ISA

A Mini ISA is an ISA made up of one type of saving, either a Cash ISA, a Stocks & Shares ISA or a Life Insurance ISA. You can have lots of different types of Mini ISA with different managers and different types of savings.

Maxi ISA

A Maxi ISA is an ISA which is made up of different types of ISA all managed by the same ISA manager. These ISAs can contain individual Cash ISAs, Stocks & Shares ISAs and Life Insurance ISAs.

TESSA Only ISA

A TESSA Only ISA is a special form of ISA. ISAs replaced the previous savings schemes, Tax Exempt Special Savings Accounts (TESSA) and Personal Equity Plans (PEPs). A TESSA Only ISA is a special type of ISA that can only be opened using the capital from a matured TESSA plan.
